Happy New Year! I Resolve to Keep Resolving!!!
January 3, 2012
Another Year, Another Dollar. Wait. That’s not how the saying goes. I’m open to dollars though. I’m pretty much open to anything in this new year. Hello 2012! Nice to meet you. We’ve been living together for 3 days now, and things are going pretty well thus far.
Now about this whole “New Year’s Resolution” thing. I know some people are very anti-resolution, but not me. I love them. I’m all about them. I resolve throughout the year, but the new year seems like it was made for resolutions. It sounds like such a noble and fancy word. Resolution…
So what does this new year have in store for me resolution wise?
I am resolving to make 2012 “The Year Of The Body”. And not in the usual vanity or weight-loss sense. It has recently come to my attention that I ain’t no spring chicken anymore (okay, so maybe you knew that already, but it was news to me), and I’m concerned about my insides, so I’m going to take care of them. 2011 was a great year personally, but physically, I dealt (and am still dealing) with stomach issues and back issues that have seriously disrupted my world. Luckily, I think they can be fixed and ultimately avoided in the future if I get a real handle on my health and work hard to do the best I can with the cards I was dealt. I believe that core strength, good food, and constant vigilance will keep me out of the doctor’s office, so I’m going to seriously focus on that this year.
I am also vowing NOT to spend $$ on clothes. WHAT!?!? I know. I love clothes. I love adornment. But I need to remind myself that I already have lots – many of which still have tags on them or haven’t been worn in a year. Therefore, “simplify, get creative, and wear what you’ve got” shall be my motto for 2012. I can always bust out the sewing machine and rework some items if I get really bored with the wardrobe, so we’ll see how that goes.
On a smaller scale, I have made a few other resolutions like “get back in touch with so-and-so”, “write morning pages daily”, and “keep track of the books you read and movies you watch”. That’s easy stuff that just takes some focus and commitment, and I like commitment (I am finding), so those should be fun and rewarding. I also plan to continue my walk down some creative paths that I started forging in 2011. As I told a friend of mine today – I have found that it’s actually much easier to do what you desire and be proud of yourself for it than to make excuses and pretend you’re happy in the same old rut doing the same old shit. Lying to yourself gets you nowhere. That knowledge has been a long time coming for me, but I’m so glad I have it now, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me this year!
